Freshman Earns Runnerup Finish At State Tennis

AUSTIN – It was an unforgettable first year on the Carroll Dragon varsity tennis team for freshman Kelley Anderson.

The standout singles player finished the season as the Class 5A State Runnerup. Anderson fell short of the state title, but won the first setting before losing a tough battle with Mariana Rong of Northside O’Conner, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Anderson was slowed after she suffered an injured shoulder in the second set.

Anderson’s route to the title match was impressive. She won her quarterfinal match 6-1, 7-5 and the semifinal 6-2, 6-1.

Anderson was joined at the state tournament by Carroll singles player Austin McCasin. The junior lost his quarterfinal match 6-1, 6-0.
