Top in their Class: Carroll Grads Head to Ivy League

Two coveted Ivy League schools are about to get a little greener. Carroll green, that is. This year’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian have chosen to attend Harvard and Yale universities, respectively.

Patrick Liu, Carroll Senior High School Class of 2012 Valedictorian

Carroll ISD announced Patrick Liu is Valedictorian of the Carroll Senior High School Class of 2012. Patrick is the son of Anita Huang and Wen-Sheng Liu of Westlake. Liu is an outstanding young man who excels in both academics and as a figure skater and is very active in many student activities. As a member of the Carroll Medical Academy, Liu will graduate with seven honors and Advanced Placement science courses, and seven honors and Advanced Placement mathematics courses.

“The one principle which I have always tried to keep in my mind throughout my education is that failure should never be justification to stop striving for excellence,” Liu said.

The 18-year-old senior also served Carroll Senior High School and the community as a member of the Green Jackets during his senior year. Liu possesses a keen sense of humor and can always be counted on to help others when needed.

In the fall, Liu will be a freshman at Harvard University where he plans to major in economics.

Greeshma Rajeev-Kumar, Carroll Senior High School Class of 2012 Salutatorian

This year’s Salutatorian is Greeshma Rajeev-Kumar. She is the daughter of Suja Rajeev-Kumar and Rajeev Nair of Justin.Greeshma excels in the classroom and in the arena of community service. She gives of her time and talent each weekend at the John Peter Smith clinic to help others.

“Life is not a test of aptitude or strength. It is the source of aptitude and strength,” said the 18–year-old graduating senior.

Greeshma is also a member of the Carroll Medical Academy and will graduate with seven honors and Advanced Placement science courses and seven honors and Advanced Placement mathematics courses. This outstanding student plans to major in biology when she begins the next phase of her academic career at Yale University in the fall.

Graduation will be held on June 1, 2012 at Dragon Stadium. Gates open at 6:15 p.m. The Commencement begins at 7:30 p.m. Click here for more details.
