Fireworks Safety

Southlake DPS wants to remind you to have a safe and Happy 4th of July!  Here are a few tips to help ensure that you and your family have a great time and arrives home safely.

The best way is to leave it to the professionals and take your family to a public fireworks display where experts are setting off fireworks in conjunction with local fire departments. Chief Michael Starr says, “We want to make sure everyone has a lot of fun during the July 4th Holiday without any fireworks injuries.”  (*We have provided a link to our Stars and Stripes event on July 3rd so that you and your family can make the most of all of the exciting events going on during the City of Southlake’s celebration!)

Keep in mind that most cities in Tarrant County have stiff penalties for lighting fireworks in City limits.  Plus, the weather is hot and dry and that adds to the dangers of setting off fireworks.

Here are a few other important tips and reminders about fireworks safety and penalties.  You cannot ignite fireworks:

•           From a motor vehicle or shoot fireworks towards another vehicle.

•           Within 600 feet of any church, hospital, licensed childcare center or public/private school.

•           Within 100 feet of a place where fireworks are sold.

•           Within 100 feet of a place where flammable liquids or flammable compressed gasses are stored or dispensed.

Most importantly, do NOT let your children handle or set off fireworks.  Most fireworks related injuries happen with children.

Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July Holiday!
