Proposed Tarrant County Budget Has No Tax Rate Increase

The total proposed operating budget is $491,443,221 with a tax rate of 26.4 cents per $100 valuation.  Tarrant County taxes on a home with a value of $100,000 would be $264. For the fourth consecutive year, the proposed tax rate is below the effective and roll-back tax rates.

The proposed General Fund budget adds 12 positions related to increased workload, audit findings significant enough to warrant additional personnel, quality compliance and oversight, and through the reduction of a department’s temporary salary budget.  Four (unfilled) positions would be eliminated.

The proposed budget includes a 3 percent merit-based salary increase for employees.

Compared with the other five large urban counties (Travis, El Paso, Harris, Bexar and Dallas) Tarrant’s tax rate is the second lowest.

Budget work sessions begin at 9 a.m., today.  The Commissioners Court is scheduled to adopt the budget and set the tax rate on September 11th.
