Dragon Sports Update: Week of Aug. 20

The following is an update of Carroll Dragon athletics…

Lady Dragon Volleyball: The Lady Dragons started out this week ranked No. 1. after winning  their second Duncanville Tournament crown and forced Coppell to falls to No. 2. Carroll, however, fell to Plano on Tuesday night suffering its first loss. The Lady Dragon return to action and face Lovejoy Wednesday evening and the Allen Eagles Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the Carroll Senior High School gymnasium. Both games start at 6:30 p.m.

Dragon Football: The Dragons are ranked No. 1 in Class 5A as the reigning Division I state champions. They will scrimmage at Duncanville on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The season opener will be played Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. against the Allen Eagles. It will mark the opening of Allen’s new 18,000-seat stadium. The Dragons first home game will be held the following Friday, Sept. 7 when they host Midland at 7:30 p.m. on Green Out Night.

Boys and Girls Cross Country: The teams start the season ranked No. 1 after winning the 5A State Championships last year. The boys’ team set a new 5A State record with 20 points, the girls won gold with 48 points. The Dragon Cross Country team starts off the season with the Southlake 8-Mile Relay at Oak Grove Park Saturday, Aug 25. They will also race at the Marcus I Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton Saturday, Sept. 1.

Dragon Tennis: The season opened Wednesday morning at Marcus. Their first match against Coppell was rescheduled, due to rain, and will be played later Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Carroll Senior High School tennis courts. New head coach Corey Aldridge is very excited about this upcoming season as there are talented lineups for both of the boys and girls teams.
