Dawson Band Students Give Noteworthy Auditions

On Saturday, October 20, Dawson Middle School band students auditioned for the Carroll ISD Honor Band. Each student had to perform 2 scales (selected from 8), their chromatic scale, two cuts from their prepared etudes and then sightread. The scales had to be memorized and the sightreading was an 8 measure example that they only had 30 seconds to look at then perform.

Over 225 students auditioned for this ensemble, 62 were selected and 10 additional students were picked as alternates. Following two days of rehearsals, the students will give a special concert on January 18, 2013 at the Carroll Senior High Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

In other band news, Dawson Middle School hosted the Region 24 Phase One Honor Band tryouts on Wednesday, October 24. Over 1,000 students from Carroll ISD and neighboring school districts auditioned for the opportunity to advance to the Phase Two portion. Each student had to play two scales (selected out of 8), chromatic scale, and two small cuts from their prepared etudes.  Three judges then ranked each student and selected a specific number of students to advance to the next phase.  34 students from Dawson were selected to audition on Saturday, Oct.27 at Durham MS in Lewisville.  It was as this competition the students had to play their chromatic, two large cuts from their etudes and then sightread.  After all was said and done, 26 students were selected to perform in the All-Region Honor Band.  These students will rehearse at a Carroll ISD school on Saturday, Jan.12, 2013 and will give a concert that evening in the Carroll Senior High Auditorium.  This concert is also free and open to the public.

The Dawson Bands are under the direction of David Stone, Eric Guerrero and Becky Bailey. Michael Oglesby, Nathan Brazell and Sara Scott direct Carroll Middle School bands. Click here to download the 2012 All Region Results and click here for the 2012 All City Results.
