Carroll Theatre Department Scores Another Historic First

Carroll Theatre Department has been selected to participate in the “Louder Than A Bomb” Slam Poetry Competition this month in Chicago. Carroll is the first team from Texas to compete in the competition. “Louder Than A Bomb” or LTAB is the world’s largest youth poetry festival. The event was created in 2001 by Kevin Coval (Young Chicago Authors Artistic Director) and Anna West. This year’s competition is already underway and runs through Saturday, March 9. Click here to follow the event on Facebook.

The Carroll Theatre Department is sending six very talented performers and writers to this historic competition. Carroll ISD Theatre Directors Roald and Stacie Martinsen, in cooperation with FnG Eats Owner/Poet Bob Stephenson and writer Jason Carney, warmly congratulate the following Thespians (pictured left to right): Mary Grace Roach, Grade 10; Baylee McKeel, Grade 11; Steven Riedel, Grade 11; Alison Van Zandt, Grade 11; Sarah Warren, Grade 11; Emily Cutler, Grade 11 and Taylor Cox, Grade 12 (Not Pictured). Students depart Wednesday, March 6.

LTAB, was the subject of an award-winning documentary featured on Oprah’s OWN Network. LTAB features over 100 teams and 750 students from around the country. LTAB was created to give youth around the city of Chicago a platform to share their stories. The festival has since become a “bridge” for young people from many different backgrounds to come together and find a common ground through their narratives.
