Carroll Theatre Hosts Award Winning Poet at Weekend Slam Event

The Carroll Theatre Department is proud to present its fourth annual Poetry Slam on Saturday, Oct. 5, in the CSHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. Internationally renowned poet and author Roger Bonair-Agard will be the featured Guest Artist. Winners of the Poetry Slam will head to Chicago in March to compete in the Louder Than A Bomb Poetry Competition, which is the world’s largest youth poetry festival. Six Carroll students were among the 750 students who competed at LTAB last year. The Poetry Slam marks the conclusion of the Theatre Department’s Poetry Unit, which is taught by Jason Carney and Bob Stephenson.

Roger Bonair-Agard is the co-founder and artistic director of NYC’s louderARTS Project in New York City. He is also a Cave Canem fellow, a playwright, essayist, and memoirist, and the author of three poetry collections: Gully, Tarnish and Masquerade, and Bury My Clothes, which was nominated for the 2013 National Book Award for Poetry. He is the writer-in-residence with Vision Into Art and the poet-in-residence with Young Chicago Authors, and teaches poetry at Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in Chicago.

Tickets to the Poetry Slam are $10 and can be purchased in the foyer of the CSHS Auditorium the night of the performance.  For more information, please contact the Carroll Theatre Department at http://dragondrama.net .
