Summer School Underway in Carroll ISD

DSC_0026Learning never stops in Carroll ISD and summer is another opportunity for students.

Elementary students attend Walnut Grove Elementary to take information from the past year to reinforce their math and reading skills. Led by summer school coordinator Mike Landers, the students are in good hands.

Landers has been the Assistant Principal at Johnson Elementary for seven years, and moves to become Walnut Grove’s Assistant Principal beginning in August.

Landers has been impressed how Carroll ISD summer school teachers have adjusted following the regular school year.

“I am amazed at how quickly they (the teachers) came in prepared to meet the needs of the students,” Landers said.

Summer school elementary teachers include Angela Hammond and Robin Blackburn, both teachers at Carroll Elementary, teach 3rd and 4th grade math and reading classes. Denise Smith, a science teacher at Durham Intermediate, teaches the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade math students. Marti Griffin, a Language Arts teacher at Durham Intermediate, teaches 5th and 6th grade reading.

“I’m really grateful to be in a district that helps students in all levels and summer school to me, is an opportunity to continue working for kids,” Landers said.

Elementary summer school runs from June 9 to June 26
