Crossmen World Class Drum & Bugle Corps to Perform at "Showcase in the Square"

Presented by the City of Southlake and Toll Brothers, The Crossmen World Class Drum and Bugle Corps will be featured at this year’s fourth annual “Showcase in the Square” on Sunday, June 15, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Rustin Park Pavilion. Although donations are welcome, admission is free to the Father’s Day concert at Southlake Town Square. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to this demonstration of brass, percussion, drumline and color guard musical performances.

In addition to featured performances by The Crossmen, spectators at Showcase in the Square will also hear performances by two other Texas-based groups, Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps and the Metro Praise Youth Orchestra. Guests should expect a new event this year, an exciting Drumline Battle Competition. With exciting program updates, event attendance is expected to reach approximately 2,000 people this year.

“We have received amazing support from the City of Southlake for this event and awesome responses from fans around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,” states Rhonda Schock, co-chair of the event. “This is a great opportunity for families to enjoy the talents of a World Class Drum Corps for free.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Crossmen’s existence and dedication to shaping the lives of young musicians through music education.  The Crossmen are comprised of 150 members, ages 16-21 who excel in brass, percussion or color guard, as well as 50 professional music educators. Based in San Antonio, The Crossmen are the only Drum Corps International (DCI) World Class Drum Corps in the state of Texas. DCI is a global nonprofit organization that promotes performing arts. Each summer, the Crossmen perform and compete throughout the country. This year’s tour will begin in their home city of San Antonio, followed by performances at the Texas State Capitol and in Southlake. Following the Southlake performance, the group will begin an eight-week tour, spanning 12,000 miles and entertaining audiences at 30 competitive venues before ending the season at the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis.

In addition to the Father’s Day concert, spectators will be able to watch The Crossmen’s practice rehearsal at Carroll High School during the hours leading up to the concert. The football fields will serve as a practice location for the performers and guests are asked to view the rehearsal from the bleachers.

“We encourage middle and high school students, area band directors or any young person who is interested in music to come to Showcase in the Square. Exposing kids to music and getting kids involved as Crossmen members gives them an opportunity to pursue a lifelong passion,” says Schock.

Showcase in the Square is being produced in conjunction with the City of Southlake, Southlake Town Square and APEX Arts League.
