Motorists driving by S. Carroll Avenue and Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709) will undoubtedly notice the new construction happening at this intersection. What many may not know is that once construction is finished this section of S. Carroll Avenue and Southlake Boulevard will be home to a new, 185,000 sq. ft. shopping center called Park Village.

New businesses mean new jobs and new development indicates a thriving economy. Unfortunately, it also means temporary inconveniences due to construction activity. With that in mind, motorists should be aware of the upcoming road construction on S. Carroll Avenue.

On June 9th, the Park Village contractor will begin Phase 1 of a two phase project meant to aide in the preparation of Park Villages’ scheduled fall 2014 opening.  Construction on both phases is expected to last for approximately 60 days and includes:

  • Phase 1: The widening of Carroll Avenue along the Park Village frontage, as well and the construction of a deceleration lane for the main drive into the development.
  • Phase 2: Center median improvements.

To facilitate traffic flow through the construction area, traffic will be shifted so that motorists will have access to one northbound lane and two southbound lanes of S. Carroll Avenue. Delays are expected once the traffic switch goes into effect and it is advised that motorists seek alternate routes.

The City greatly appreciates driver co-operation during the construction process and City staff is working with the contractor to minimize the impact of the construction on upcoming City activities, such as the City’s Stars and Stripes event on July 3rd.  In fact, construction on this section of S. Carroll Avenue will be suspended completely on July 3rd and 4th to ensure that there are as few disruptions as possible for this event.

The City of Southlake is committed to providing residents with progress reports on the S. Carroll Avenue construction via the City’s Facebook, Twitter, and DPS webpages. So please check these sources for periodic updates. If you have questions specific to the construction, please contact Alex Ayala, P.E. at 817-748-8274.
