FM 1938 Phase II – Intersection Construction is Coming

Update 1/6/15:  TxDOT construction at the intersection of FM 1938 and Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709), which was set to begin in January, will now begin in Spring 2015.

Big changes are coming to Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709) in 2015!

Beginning in January 2015, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be making improvements to FM1938 at the Davis Boulevard/Southlake Boulevard intersection.  The improvements will include constructing dual left-turn lanes in all directions of the Davis Boulevard/Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709) intersection. The goal of this construction is to improve traffic flow through the intersection and to help ease traffic congestion along Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709) and FM 1938.

Traffic flow and congestion at this intersection was one of the most talked about items during the 2013 Citizen’s Survey. At the time the survey was being conducted, design of the Davis Boulevard/Southlake Boulevard intersection was underway as part of the FM 1938 Roadway Project.  Since then, significant work has been done along FM 1938 to prepare for this construction, such as the City water & sewer utility relocation. This intersection work represents the next major step in the FM 1938 Phase II project.

When the construction begins, it’s advised that motorists seek alternate routes to access Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709). Additionally, it’s expected that traffic delays near the intersection will increase because of the work being done. We appreciate your patience during this important and necessary construction and just know that the end result will be an intersection that addresses many of the traffic and congestion problems.

Over the next several weeks, the City will continue to communicate important project information.  Drivers should expect to see message boards placed near the intersection.  The Office of Traffic Management, which will assist in organizing traffic control efforts, will communicate possible alternate routes along the roadway portion of the construction and provide additional information  as we move closer to the start date. Once the project begins, the City will communicate regularly providing status updates regularly.
