Dragon Magic: Carroll Rallies for Thrilling Playoff Win

Dragon footballARLINGTON – Call it Dragon playoff magic.

The Carroll Dragon football team overcame a 14-point fourth quarter deficit for a memorable 38-31 victory against Mansfield in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff last Saturday at AT&T Stadium. It marked another thrilling chapter in the rich history of Dragon football.

Carroll (11-0), ranked No. 2 in 6A, scored the game-winning touchdown with 13 seconds when quarterback Ryan Agnew found receiver Tariq Gordon for 31 yards. The Dragons trailed 24-7 late in the third quarter and 31-17 with 6:53 left in the game. The game-turning play came with 2:40 in the game when Agnew scrambled and found Lil’ Jordan Humphrey on a 76-yard TD to tie the game 31-31.

The Dragons scored 24 points in the fourth quarter. Carroll advances to face Denton Guyer on Saturday in an area-round showdown. Kickoff is 8 p.m. Saturday at AT&T Stadium.

Agnew finished with 344 yards passing and four TDs. Parker Fentriss had five catches for 97 yards and two TDs and Humphrey had four catches for 105 yards and one TD. The Dragons finished with 486 yards and overcame a sluggish first half.

CSHS and CHS: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No sales Friday. Adults $8 and students $6. All tickets at AT&T Stadium are $10 and parking is $10.
