State Reschedules Math STAAR Testing Date

calendarartThe Texas Education Agency has announced that 5th and 8th grade mathematics STAAR tests will be rescheduled to April 20, 2015. The change was made to allow 5th and 8th grade students three additional weeks to learn the new mathematics standards.

The 5th and 8th grade assessments are typically given at the end of March or beginning of April to allow for student retesting. Because of the new standards, no retests will be required this year.

The change was made based on teacher, administrator and parent input from around the state, including Carroll ISD, to the State Board of Education.

The Carroll ISD mathematics department will meet with teachers in January to adjust pacing of the curriculum.

“This change is positive for the students of Carroll ISD, because it allows additional time to master the required standards,” said Jaclyn Hemmila, Carroll ISD Secondary Mathematics Coordinator.
