Last Chance for Southlake’s Leaf Recycling Program – January 7

leaf, leaves, fallFall has arrived and so has the opportunity for Southlake residents to participate in the City’s annual Leaf Recycling Program. The Leaf Recycling Program gives citizens the opportunity to place their bagged leaves on the curb and have them picked up for recycling rather than end up in the landfill.

To participate in the program, residents are asked to place their bagged leaves at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the following collection days:

  • Wednesday, November 19, 2014
  • Wednesday, December 3, 2014
  • Wednesday, December 17, 2014
  • Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Residents may bag their leaves using any type of bag. Bagged leaves must also be physically separated from other solid waste at the curb.

The City’s Leaf Recycling Program aims to reduce the amount of valuable landfill space that is used up by yard waste, an activity that in the long-term, removes nutrients from the environment and costs residents more in increased taxes and service fees. A more environmentally friendly disposal option is to recycle leaves and reuse their valuable organic nutrients in landscaped areas. Since the program’s inception, Southlake residents have bagged and recycled more than 1900 tons of leaves.
