DragonWrestling

The Dragons went 5-0 in the SA Reagan Duals and improved to 14-3 on the season in dual meets.

The Carroll Dragon varsity wrestling team traveled to San Antonio for the San Antonio Reagan Bill Gillespie Dual Classic last weekend. The Dragons faced off against the top teams in Region 4 and made a resounding statement. The team went a perfect 5-0 with all of the wins coming in dominate fashion.

The Dragons were seeded #1 in Pool A and overall in the tournament. The pool rounds started with a match up against New Braunfels Canyon. The Dragons ran away with it, 66-12, but the dual was highlighted by a match up of state-ranked wrestlers at 160 lbs. Carroll’s Jack Duval edged Canyon’s Josh Myers 3-2 in a great match and one which could likely happen against at state.

The team then moved on to face Austin Bowie. This was a lopsided dual from the start and the Dragons went on to win 76-6 and improve to 2-0 in the pool. The final match of pool A was the Georgetown Eagles.

The Dragons continued the hot streak and downed the Eagles 49-19. then defeated host SA Reagan in the semifinals 57-24.

The win over Reagan set up a rematch with SA Churchill from two weeks ago at the State Dual Tournament in Katy. The Dragons came out on top 34-29, and advanced to the 5th place match. The finals started as closely con-tested as the first dual with the score 12-10 after 5 matches. However, the 5th match of the night provided the momentum swing the Dragons would need. At 145 lbs., Trevor Price of Carroll took the overtime victory over Tim Edmondson of Churchill, 4-2, in a battle of state-ranked wrestlers. The Dragons went on to win 7 of the next 9 matches and closed the dual out, 54-22. The team finished 5-0 for the tournament and is now 14-3 on the season in dual meets.

The next competition for Carroll is Thursday, Jan. 29 vs. Arlington Martin and Grapevine at CHS.
