Dragon Wrestlers Excel at Texas Outlaw

DragonWrestling2014-2After a well deserved break, the Dragons wrestling team took to the mats once again in arguably the toughest tournament in the state – the Texas Outlaw at Allen High School.

Wrestlers competed in 4-6 man pools on Friday with the top two from each pool advancing to the Championship bracket Saturday.

In total, nine Dragon wrestlers finished in the top of the pool and advanced to Saturday’s placing rounds, five champions & four runner-ups. Saturday featured some of the best wrestling in the state with state and national level athletes squaring off for the Texas Outlaw title.

The tournament included teams from across the state, as well as, teams from Kansas and Missouri. The Dragons finished with nine places and one champion – freshman Cameron Haddock at 120 lbs. This was also an impressive team performance as the team finished in 4th place, 2nd among Texas schools.

This Saturday, the Dragons will take part in the Texas State Dual Championships in Katy. The State Duals match the best teams from each region and around the state in dual meet competition to crown a State Champion. The 16-team field will be broken into four-team pools whose champions will meet in the state semifinals. Pool seeds will be announced later this week.

This year’s field features a who’s who of wrestling in Texas including six-time defending state dual champion Allen High School. The Dragons finished second in pool play to Allen, before going onto an 8th place team finish in 2014.
