Carroll Student Places High in Chinese Contest

CHS_AmandaBeeckCarroll ISD’s Mandarin Chinese program continues to grow as students compete and earn academic awards for their knowledge of the language and culture. Each year, the students participate in the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition.

The Preliminary Contest in the Southern United States was held Sunday, April 26 at the University of Texas at Dallas. Carroll junior Amanda Beeck won second place. Beeck is a Chinese 3 student, under the instruction of Yuhsin Lee.

Beeck competed against contestants from 10 other states in the southern U.S. region. She delivered a 2-minute Chinese speech, answered culture questions and performed a Chinese talent. Beeck’s teacher, Mrs. Lee said many judges personally came up to Amanda to congratulate her.

The Chinese Bridge Competition began as a proficiency contest for college students. This is the eighth year the contest has been offered to high school students. Click here for more information about last weekend’s contest.
