Friday, Feb. 15 Carroll Elementary fathers, members of the CISD Board of Trustees and district employees brought American history to life as they dressed as famous American Presidents. The lesson was to teach students each president did during their term. As students rotated from room to room to meet different presidents, they brought with them a sheet of paper where they could record three facts about each individual. There were multiple presidents for each grade level.

School Board Trustee John Thane (dressed as George Washington) and students from Mrs. Hammond's class

Students say they learned interesting facts about each president such as the cherry tree fable about George Washington (played by CISD Superintendent Dr. David Faltys and CISD School Board Trustee John Thane) was not true, Abraham Lincoln was a self-taught lawyer and George Bush was a captain of the cheer leader squad at his high school and at Yale. At the end of each presentation, the students had a chance to ask questions. The Presidents were very impressed with many intelligent questions from the students.

Students were proud to see their dads acting as presidents. Carson and Sloan Smith were in for a sweet surprise when they found out that under Ronald Reagan’s mask, was their own dad! CES students and staff are very grateful for the dads and the school board members, who had graciously volunteered their time and effort to make this learning experience a memorable one.
The students had a great time running, skipping, and dancing around the track while singing to their favorite songs. The cool weather, the loud parents’ cheering and the fun music had helped many students reached their goals of 35 laps.

Boosterthon is a fitness based non-product fundraiser that emphasizes character, fitness and education. Each class formed its own team and competed against others for fun prizes. The students raised money by asking for pledges from their parents, relatives and friends. There were pledges from 45 states and 11 countries.

It was another successful fundraising event for CES. The money raised will go toward a beautiful mural for the library, upgrading technology, and enhancing classroom tools. Most importantly, the values of teamwork, character and fitness were emphasized and practiced by all CES students.

With over 33 million readers, Paolini is one of the most popular young adult authors in the world. Growing up homeschooled by his parents, Paolini graduated from high school at age fifteen. Still a little young to begin college, he began writing his first draft of Eragon, the story of a young boy and his dragon. The completion of the novel was a family affair. Paolini’s sister Angela created the art for the cover of the book, and his parents published the book themselves. Early promotions included the author dressing in a medieval costume to present his book to students who were often his age! His first book quickly grew into a four-part series called the Inheritance Cycle, which is now read by children and adults all over the world. Often compared to fantasy classics such as Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, the Inheritance Cycle’s stories of dragons, adventure, and danger have captured the imagination of many young readers, much to the delight of parents everywhere.

Join the DMA for a journey to Paolini’s mythical land of Alagaësia as he discusses the final book in the cycle, Inheritance. The deluxe edition of Inheritance includes never-before-seen artwork by Christopher Paolini; an exclusive, full-color fold-out poster by award-winning artist John Jude Palencar; a letter from Jeod, one of Eragon’s confidantes, summarizing life after the final scene of the series; a letter from Paolini to fans reflecting on the series; and a new scene within the text.
