Division I is a league for teams with more advanced skills. Only team registrations are accepted for this league; and teams must provide their own coach and jerseys. Division II is a recreational league and is a great way to learn the sport! Individuals are placed together on teams and paired with volunteer coaches. Be sure to indicate if you are interested in coaching when registering your child! Also new for the summer is the 14 & Under age division; this division will be a great opportunity for girls to practice their skills prior to try-outs in the fall for Middle-School.

The registration deadline for both divisions is Friday, May 31 by 5:00  p.m.  The cost is $385.00 for Division I teams and $60.00 for Division II individuals. Practices will be the week of June 17, and games will start on Saturday, June 22.

By composting kitchen wastes as well as leaves and grass, households are recycling and reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills and creating greener gardens, healthier lawns, and Eco-friendly living.

Join Master Composter and Master Gardener, Charlie Shiner, for a series of free 2-hour workshops this spring and summer at the Bob Jones Nature Center. If you miss a workshop, join us for the next one as each class stands alone! Charlie has taught composting workshops in the Arlington, Fort Worth, and Southlake area for over seven years. His presentation is full of practical tips and techniques on creating a successful home composting area.

Compete against your friends on various inflatables or at 4-on-4 basketball. There will be a live DJ, dancing, entertainment and various contests. Concession items (everything under $2.00) will be sold and T-shirts will also be available to purchase for $10.00 each. To ensure a safe environment, there will be a uniformed DPS officer on site.

Activities at Southlake Summer Kickoff will include: Recreation program registration, Library Reading Club sign-up, information on City programs and services, class demonstrations, live entertainment, free concessions and raffle drawings. Raffle drawings will include: one free week of Camp Mania, one free week of Teen Scene, three giveaways for one free week of Jiu Jitsu, one free week of Mad Science camp and one free week of Play-well Teknologies camp. Live entertainment at the event will include the energetic cover band, Baby and the Geezers, and cultural entertainment presented by Southlake Sister Cities and the International Culture Club. Baby and the Geezers performs an upbeat, pop/variety show that will include music the entire family can enjoy. Baby and the Geezers will perform from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. followed by the cultural entertainment from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. You will learn about different culture’s traditions of dance, music and attire. The City of Southlake and Arts Council Northeast are pleased to bring children’s entertainment to Easter in the Park in conjunction with the  Masterworks Concert Series.

David Chicken Children’s Entertainment: 1:30 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Willie Welsh Children’s Entertainment: 2:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Egg Scramble Schedule:

Practice will start Monday, April 22 and participants will meet every Monday and Wednesday at Durham Intermediate School until May 15. Through interactive drills and exercises, boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of soccer including kicking, dribbling, passing and shooting. Teamwork, sportsmanship and overall FUN will be emphasized over direct competition. Parents, be sure to join us for the last day of the season as players will get the chance to show off their new skills in the “Big Game.”

You may notice an influx of people to our area this weekend. The City of Southlake and the City of Grapevine will be jointly hosting the 2013 TAAF Youth Basketball State Tournament March 15-17. The best basketball teams in Texas will be traveling from across the state to compete in this tournament.   This is a very large event as 176 teams from across the state of Texas have been confirmed to participate.  There will be 6-7 tournament venues in Southlake at C.I.S.D. schools and an additional 6-7 venues at G.C.I.S.D. schools. Between Saturday and Sunday Southlake alone will be hosting 152 games. The following is a list of tournament locations for C.I.S.D. Schools:

An estimated 1,500 – 2,000 players will be competing for the title of State Champions. Cities are awarded to host T.A.A.F. State Tournaments through a competitive bidding process. The estimated economic impact from last year’s tournament in Carrolton and The Colony was around $600,000.  It was estimated that approximately 7,700 participants/spectators attended the tournament in 2011 with about 50% being from outside the DFW area. Approximately 10,000 participants/spectators are expected to attend this weekend.

The City of Southlake and City of Grapevine’s staff will host a tournament party at the Grapevine Community Activity Center on March 16th.
